Falcons

The Falcons are a group of junior archers within Northern Archers. This group, coordinated by senior club members actively meet on a regular basis so that the juniors get to know each other and can then shoot and learn together. Special sessions are organised with guest senior archers to teach them about equipment and its maintenance. In the past these have included arrow repair and construction, string making, bow tuning, and advice from current seniors and juniors competing in State and National teams in target, field and clout styles of Archery.

To gain experience in competitive shooting, competition shoots are organised on designated "Falcons" days. They are also encouraged to shoot within the club league, where targets are set up for them at shorter distances to account for their age, limited experience or the distances they are qualified at. With help from parents, some of the juniors have been travelling to tournaments also, representing their club and putting in some fine individual performances.

Juniors are encouraged to shoot at a level where they feel comfortable, much depends on their strength and ability. It is best to shoot a lighter bow weight so as to learn correct technique at first. This will also help to ensure the body builds strength and minimise the likelihood of any body injuries. Shooting a bow that is too heavy could cause injury and bad techniques can develop. This leads to discomfort, frustration and poor scores, which will ultimately end in an unsatisfactory experience.
